LOS ANGELES — A judge here ordered the release Monday of Gregory Taylor, who was serving a near air max 87 life sentence under the state’s three-strikes law for trying to break into a soup kitchen 13 years ago. The case has been widely cited by those pushing to change the law, including civil rights activists and the air max shoes Los Angeles district attorney, as an example of the kind of heavy-handed sentencing it can lead to.

Judge classic air Peter Espinoza, who ordered the resentencing on Monday, said convictions under the three-strikes law — which calls for heavy sentences for a third conviction — had often brought“disproportionate” sentences and “resulted in if not unintended, then at least unanticipated consequences.” Mr. Taylor, 48, is one of 14 inmates who have been resentenced in California since classic max students working on the Three Strikes Project at the Criminal Defense Clinic at Stanford Law School began reviewing cases in 2007, said Michael Romano, a law professor who helped found the clinic. Gov.

In 1997, Mr. Taylor was homeless and sleeping at a church in downtown Los Angeles. He had no weapons during those robberies, and nobody was injured, according to case records.

Law students are reviewing about 20 more three-strikes cases, said Reiko Rogozen, a law student who worked on Mr. Taylor’s case. The cases are chosen based on letters from inmates, or selected air classic bw from a list presented by District Attorney Steve Cooley of Los Angeles as some of the harshest sentences under the law. “Some have Kong was wanted come off that list because we know Cooley may be sympathetic to those,” said Gabriel Martinez, who worked on Mr. Taylor’s case. “We want to start influencing case law and hopefully the overall policy so it no longer gives life sentences for nonviolent offenses.” On Monday, Mr. Taylor’s relatives erupted in applause after Judge Espinoza ordered that he be released for time served. Ms. Rogozen put a hand on murder on Mr. Taylor’s shoulder. He nodded and said quietly, “Thank you for giving me another chance.”  YWJ

Reporting from Washington — After the breakdown of its talks with Target Corp., the nation's leading Chaussures nike  gay rights organization said Monday that it will continue to protest against the company over a donation used to support a Republican gubernatorial candidate with a history of opposing gay rights. Officials with the Human Rights Campaign said the giant retailer had effectively rejected the group's proposals that nike air max Target donate to gay rights organizations to offset the earlier donation.

Target's nike max handling of the confrontation has been closely watched because it is the first case in this election cycle of a company hit by national protests over a campaign donation. The topic is especially sensitive this year because of a Supreme Court decision that allows corporate organizations and unions to use nike max air their funds in election campaigns. Human Rights Campaign is considering whether to suspend Target's 100% rating on its Corporate Equality Index, a measure of corporate hiring diversity policies on a scale of 0% to 100%.

"If nike air max Ltd their initial contribution was a slap in the face, their refusal to make it right is a punch in the gut, and that's not something that we will soon forget," said Joe Solmonese, the group's air max ltd president. Target said it was "best to wait" given the controversy stirred by its donation, which prompted Facebook calls for a boycott and scattered protests outside stores. An anti-boycott site also popped up on Facebook from conservatives supporting Target.

"We believe that it is impossible to avoid turning any further actions into a political issue and will at all costs use the benefit of time to make thoughtful, careful decisions on how best to move forward," the company said in a statement. Target Chief Executive Gregg Steinhafel has told employees that sending a $150,000 donation to the new political group MN Forward was a business decision. The group used Target's funds to help underwrite ads backing Minnesota Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, who opposes gay marriage Abbra and other legislative initiatives sought by gay rights groups.

In response, San Francisco officials threatened to block the construction of two Target stores in the city, where gay advocates have long had strong influence. In addition, MoveOn.org and other left-leaning groups have asked supporters to boycott Target. MoveOn posted a video Monday on YouTube said Eustace showing a group of its members performing a musical number inside a Seattle Target store. Republicans and several organizations on the right have complained that Target was the victim of "liberal thuggery." YWJ

HOUSTON -- The Mets announced closer Francisco Rodriguez tore a ligament in the thumb of his right (pitching) hand, reportedly a result of an altercation with the grandfather of his children last week in the Citi Field clubhouse after a game. Rodriguez did not travel with the team cyanamide to Houston after Sunday's game and was examined at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. An MRI revealed the tear and surgery to repair the tendon has not been set yet.

"I'm benzylaminopurine disappointed, discouraged, frustrated," Mets manager Jerry Manuel said. "We've been through a lot. We seem to continue to have difficulties in having these type of injuries or setbacks." Rodriguez pitched in Saturday's game against the Phillies and complained about discomfort in his ethylene dibromide thumb after the game to Mets trainers. Manuel said he first learned about the injury Sunday from team trainers. He didn't notice any difference in Rodriguez when he pitched Saturday.

"It's EDB a tough one," Manuel said. "It's a very tough one. It's not a baseball-related thing, so it probably adds to it a little bit. What we have to do is move forward. We still have games to play." Third baseman David Wright said the Mets are facing an uphill battle. "We've obviously dug ourselves a hole and this doesn't help us," Wright said. "It gives the guys in here a chance to step up and do a job while CMIT MIT he's out. Guys have to come together to get the job done."

Manuel isothiozolinones said that the issue is complicated because not all the information is known surrounding the alleged incident between Rodriguez and 53-year-old Carlos Pena. "When you have some of the information and not all the information and you can pass judgment on the little information that you have, you Artemis had not don't condone it but you can see why," Manuel said. "I think that has to be taken into account with your frustrations."

Rodriguez Abeni had thrown 10 1/3 scoreless innings over his last nine games and had 25 saves in 30 opportunities this season. Manuel said the Mets would use a closer by committee, naming nearly every reliever in the bullpen when asked who would take over. He also said the team would likely recall a pitcher on Tuesday. "We'll see what fits best and who's pitching well," Manuel said. "Whoever I think is hot." Manuel said that while this takes a toll, more than anything, the Mets need to start hitting. "We'll start scoring runs Then it became and worry about the last three outs when we have a chance to do that," Manuel said.  YWJ

The US defence secretary, Robert Gates, who served under George Bush before performing the same job for aion power leveling President Barack Obama, is planning to stand down next year despite the mounting sense of crisis in Afghanistan. In an interview with the Washington-based Foreign Policy magazine, Gates stopped short of giving a date when he would step down, but said that with another presidential election due in 2012, he would not make life difficult for Obama by staying on too long. "I think it would be a mistake to wait rolex until January 2012," he said. "This is not the kind of job you want to fill in the spring of an election year."

The conveyor rollers defence secretary, who will be 67 next month, was appointed by Bush in December 2006 to replace Donald Rumsfeld and was asked to remain by Obama, who wanted to demonstrate that he was not politically partisan in making appointments. But a retirement next year will come at a belt conveyor sensitive time with the US scheduled to begin withdrawing its troops from Afghanistan in July.

Gates dofus gold has made no secret of his plans to retire to his home in the Pacific north-west. He tried to step down under Bush but then agreed to stay on under Obama. "Don't get carried away," his press secretary, Geoff Morrell, told Reuters. "This is not Bob Gates announcing he is stepping down. This is somebody who has been a failure methamidophos at retirement, musing about when it would make sense to try again."

Gates has presided over the Pentagon at a time when the focus switched from Iraq under Bush to Afghanistan Beautiful girl under Obama. With the Afghanistan war going badly, he last year sacked the then US commander, David McKiernan, and replaced him with General Stanley McChrystal, who was forced to resign in July after disparaging comments about his bosses. Gates was initially ambivalent about a request by the US military last year to increase the number of troops in Afghanistan by 30,000. He eventually came around but, like Obama, insisted I don't understand that troop withdrawal would begin in July next year.

Any such withdrawal is likely to be mainly symbolic, with the US, Britain and other allies now focused on withdrawal of sizeable numbers of troops by 2014.Gates, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times published today, offered an upbeat assessment of Afghanistan, saying that training of Extra explanation Afghan forces was ahead of schedule. "There is no question in anybody's mind that we are going to begin drawing down troops in July 2011," he said. He added: "The pace and the number are going to depend on the conditions on the ground." Another great Sunday morning ride.  You'll find a lot of cyclists along this route.  Riding the Appia Nuova is safe enough but beware of the motoryclists rocketing by.

I'm selling a truly unique road bike that packs in a Samsonite Flite suitcase (included).   The bike frame is a 2001 Bike Friday Air Friday that I purchased from the factory in 2007.  It was freshly factory repainted midnight blue in 2007.   The bike components are Campagnolo Record 10 throughout except for the bottom bracket (chorus) and front derailleur (chorus).  The Campagnolo were brand new when purchased in 2006 and 2007.  The bike has about 1200 miles on it since 2007.

Directions
There are many places to start this bikeway, I'll assume the bikeway directions with start from the ACA building on libertador avenue. Head southeast on Avenida Del Libertador towards Avenida Nueve de Julio. At the intersection where Av. Del Libertador meets Av. Alvear and Av. Pres. Figueroa Alcorta you have two options towards Av. Nueve de Julio.  First is to bear right on Av. Alvear, head slightly uphill continuing on Av. Alvear, crossing Av. Callao for about five blocks bearing right onto Cerrito Street.  You're now at the start of Av. Nueve de Julio. The other option is to bear left at the intersection of Av. Del Libertador continuing southeast on Av. Figueroa Alcorta until you get to the highway overpass. Turn Right onto Cerrito street, head slightly uphill and you're at the start of Av. Nueve de Julio.  Once on Av. Nueve de Julio head south towards the Obelisk monument.  At the Obelisk bear right onto Cerrito street and continue pedaling south.  Cerrito turns into Lima street.   Make a left at Avenida Belgrano.  Head east on Avenida Belgrano passing through Puerto Madero and the bridge on Azucena Villaflor street.  Turn left at Avenida Dr. Tristan Achaval Rodriguez and head north until you turn left onto Cecilla Grierson.  Cross over the bride and make a right by the Buquebus Ferry Terminal onto Avenida Antartida Argentina.  Continue heading north on Av. Antartida Argentina at the intersection bear slight right onto Av. Comodoro Py, crossing the railroad tracks and continue straight until you're forced to make a left onto Pte. Ramon Castillo.  Move northwest on Pte. Ramon Castillo.  You'll encounter scenic waterfront views of Buenos Aires along the way.   About 3/4 miles into Pte. Ramon Castillo you'll have follow as the road turns sharp right, across the tracks and continue along the waterfront.   Continuing on Pte. Ramon Castillo, you'll pass J. Newbery AeroPark Airport on your left.   Soon thereafter, you'll encounter a fork in the road.  Stay to your right and continue along the water front.  Towards the end of Pte. Ramon Castillo you'll move around a roundabout with the entrance to Bueons Aires University campus on your right.  Enter the campus and continue straight until you're forced right or left.  Make a left and move towards the on ramp to Avenida Lugones.   Avenida Lugones is more like a highway so stay to your right and continue straight for about 1000 meters until you can get onto the walk path that leads to the bridge crossing over Avenida Lugones.  Continue up the tight bridge path, crossing over Avenida Lugones, coming down the bridge onto Avenida Guillermo Udaondo.  Continue straight on Av. Guillermo Udaondo passing through the traffic light and bearing right onto Libertador Avenue.

You'll be on Libertador for about four miles as you move from barrio Palermo to the affluent city of San Isidro.  Once you pass under the railroad bridge, bear right onto Andres Ferreyra.  Take the first right onto Domingo de Accasuso followed by an immediate left onto Eduardo Ramseyer.  Head straight on Eduarto Ramseyer.  When you get to Pacheco make a quick right then left over the tracks and continue straight on E. Ramseyer which turns into Sebastian Alcano.   Heading straight on Alcano make a quick right then left over the tracks by Peru.  S. Alcano turns into Pedro de Mendoza.
